Trump and the Death Penalty

While the death penalty is a controversial topic, there hasn’t been much talk/hype around it recently. But I did find two articles talking about President Trump’s stance on it regarding situations that present themselves. In the first article, “Trump: Pedophiles Deserve The Death Penalty,” written in YourNewsWire.com, a moderate news source, it talked about how Trump believes that the solution to the missing children crisis is to have a fast trial and implement the death penalty on the kidnappers. In the second article I found, “Donald Trump on Capital Punishment,” written in 2016.Presidential-candidates.org, also a moderate news source as it gives the facts about what he said regarding that whoever kills a police officer deserves the death penalty and doesn’t try to use any bias in it. In both though they use pathos, which in the first one talking about all the statistics of kidnapped children, and in the second one it revolves around the emotion revolving around the death of two cops.

trump-pedophiles deserve            In the first article, “Trump: Pedophiles Deserve the Death Penalty,” the news source gave a tweet that was about 4 years old, as again the topic itself isn’t really being talked about at the moment. The tweet said, “Got to do something about these missing children grabbed by the perverts. Too many incidents–fast trial, death penalty.” Here he implicated that the best solution was to have a fast trial where ultimately they end up with the death penalty. It then continues to give statistics about kids getting kidnapped and how its about 800,000 missing children a year, which is one every 40 seconds. It also included how there has been an increase in child pornography by 432% mainly dude to the increase use of technology. It then gives a couple of incidents where people were caught for running a child pornography ring or distribution. By using pathos and also logos because of the morality of it and how wrong it is

By using pathos and also logos because of the morality of it and how wrong it is as the main reasoning behind it. While I don’t believe that it intentionally gave support to what Trump said of them deserving the death penalty, it may have backed it up because of all the statistics they gave of how many missing children there are each year.

cops            In the second article it revolves around the shooting of two cops and an interview of Donald Trump regarding that issue. Donald Trump called the two shooters animals. And he said they should be treated as such. In his words “The death penalty. It should be brought back and it should be brought back strong.” He proceeded to call the gunmen thugs and that “they should get the death penalty absolutely.” Now this article didn’t really show bias, but instead gave the story how it was simply recalling the interview and what Trump gave as his answer. He does use pathos based off of the tragic loss of two young cops, and so he plays off of the emotions of the audience by giving a solid and absolute answer, one where he has no internal turmoil between whether it is right or wrong. Lastly he ends with ““Anybody caught killing a policeman, policewoman, police officer. Anybody killing a police officer, death penalty, it’s going to happen. Okay? Can’t go, we can’t let this go.” To him this topic is very important and it is something that we as a country can not let go and must remain on top of to not let the society believe that this is an everyday thing that will have no solutions or consequences of it.
